Jeg faldt over denne hjemmeside, der problematiserer bibliotekernes mulighed for at udlåne e-bøger på lige vilkår som med fysiske bøger. Det er måske meget forsimplet, men spot on i forhold til en aktuel problemstilling.

We are your customers. We buy your print books, your audiobooks, and your ebooks. We also use libraries. We love our libraries and we trust our librarians to recommend great reads. Libraries are unique places where we discover new authors, explore new genres, and connect with our neighbors over books. In many cases, we use libraries to find more of your books to buy.

However, unlike print books, you have limited our ebook choices at libraries. We don't think this is fair – for us or for libraries. We want the choice to check out your books, in any format, from our local libraries. We want the ability to use libraries digitally just as we have with print.

As book lenders, libraries directly and indirectly encourage us to purchase books. We will still buy your ebooks, but we need libraries to help us discover, explore, and connect. We see libraries as your partners and we respectfully ask that you work with them.

Therefore, we sign this petition to encourage publishers to work with libraries to:

Provide digital content to libraries
Allow libraries to have access to books in all formats
Develop a business model that allows publishers and authors to thrive while ensuring that libraries can continue to serve readers and build collections for our communities"

"Oversigt viser årelang nedbarbering af bibliotekerne – »grænsen er nok nået« ifølge interesseorganisation" er overskriften på en artikel i Kulturmonitor i dag. Og denne milde underdrivelse om at grænsen nok er nået stammer fra mig og Danmarks Biblioteksforening. Den kunne også have været børn der ikke har adgang til bøger bliver dårligere til at læse. Baggrunden for artiklen er en opgørelse som kulturministeriet har lavet til SF’s socialordfører, Theresa Berg-Andersen. Her har ministeren opgjort antallet af for biblioteker fra 2006 og frem til i dag og gjort det klart, at antallet af danske biblioteker er faldet drastisk gennem de sidste 17 år. Opgørelsen viser at at antallet af biblioteksfilialer, er faldet fra 420 (2006) til 310 (2022) altså en en lukning af 1/4 af bibliotekerne. Havde de dykket lidt længere tilbage end til kommunalreformen kunne de se at antallet er halveret siden 1996 hvor der var 900 betjeningssteder. Stof til politisk eftertanke I Kulturmonitor siger

Hvad læser børn i en skole uden et bibliotek?

Mine største børn siger stadig at de går på skolebiblioteker, men jeg tvivler på at min den yngste på 4 kommer til at kende begrebet. I kølvandet på folkeskolereformen er skolebiblioteket nemlig blevet afskaffet eller i hvert fald erstattet af pædagogiske læringscentre . Hvad betyder det for skolen og elevernes kompetencer i forhold til traditionelle biblioteksdyder som litteratursøgning, kildekritik og læselyst, når man ændre fokus fra bibliotek til læringscenter. Det er tanker der er inspireret af at jeg er på vej til generalforsamling i Aarhus hos Kommunernes Skolebiblioteksforening eller de har naturligvis også skiftet navn til Kommunernes Forening for Pædagogiske Læringscentre . En forening som vi I Danmarks Biblioteksforening har et godt og udbytterigt samarbejder med, hvilket vi desværre ikke har med den anden "skolebiblioteksforening" Pædagogisk LæringsCenterForening som har meddelt at de ikke længere ønsker at deltage i biblioteksparaplysamarbejdet da de ikke l

The development of ‘open library’ in Denmark #wlic2013

In occasion of my participation in the World Congress for Libraries IFLA, I have made a presentation of the libraries in Denmark and especially the concept we call OPEN LIBRARIES. The theme of WLIC 2013 is "Future Libraries: Infinite Possibilities" and OPEN LIBRARIES is one of the possibilities. In Denmark, all the libraries is free to use, In the way, that all the basis services are free of charge for the public. In Denmark almost all the Libraries are funded by tax. The libraries are obligated to make all kinds of materials available, both physical and digital. Not just books. We have 98 municipalities and all of them are obligated, by legislation, to have a library and to finance it. Some of the municipalities have more than one library. We have approximately 450 public libraries, to a population of 5,5 mil. people. Half of the libraries are closed in the last ten years, but the development has hopefully stopped now.
