København vært for europæisk konference om demokrati i ny medievirkelighed

I anledning af det danske formandskab for EU har den europæiske copyright og biblioteksorganisation EBLIDA lagt deres 20-års jubilæumskonference i København fredag den 11. maj 2012.

På konferencen taler blandt andet bloggeren, aktivisten og science fiction forfatteren Cory Doctorow. En markant fortaler for liberalisering af copyrigt lovgivningen og fortaler for Creative Commons licenser, som han selv anvender som forfatter, hvilket betyder at flere af hans bøger er til fri benyttelse. Doctorow mener, at loven om ophavsret bør liberaliseres for at give mulighed for fri deling af alle digitale medier. Han har også slået til lyd for fildeling. Han har mange disciple der følger ham på hans blog www.boingboing.net

Blandt talerne er også EU-parlamentarikeren Tarja Cronberg, som fortæller om de nye medieformer og deres betydning for den demokratiske udvikling. Hun er i øjeblikket medlem af Europa-Parlamentet, tidligere var hun medlem af det finske parlament og har været minister for Labor. Hun var formand for den Grønne Parti fra 2005 til 2009.

Konferencen “Democracy development in a new media environment” finder sted på IDA kongrescenter, Kalvebod Brygge 31-33, hvor deltagere fra mere end 30 lande vil være til stede. Hele programmet kan ses på www.db.dk/copenhagen2012

Varm debat om biblioteket

Nu har både jeg og biblioteksdebat.dk holdt ferie en månedstid. Personligt har jeg koblet totalt af og nydt sommervejret, så det kan være svært at komme op i omdrejninger igen. Men det er nu også meget rart at komme igang igen, så lige nu sidder jeg og forsøger at danne mig et overblik over mediernes omtale og debat om bibliotekerne i sommeren løb, og kan konstaterer at de epokegørende debatter om bibliotekerne vist også har holdt ferie. Jeg synes ellers der har været nok at tage fat på, men det må vi jo så have rettet op på når nu udendørs temperaturen falder. Igennem sommeren har Danmarks Biblioteksforening udsendt nogle tankevækkende resultater fra vores store sommerundersøgelse. Bibliotekerne hjælper digitaliseringen på vej Ca. 9 % eller knap ½ million borgere har fået hjælp fra deres bibliotek til brug af digitale tjenester som offentlig borgerservice eller andre selvbetjeningsløsninger. The development of ‘open library’ in Denmark #wlic2013

In occasion of my participation in the World Congress for Libraries IFLA, I have made a presentation of the libraries in Denmark and especially the concept we call OPEN LIBRARIES. The theme of WLIC 2013 is "Future Libraries: Infinite Possibilities" and OPEN LIBRARIES is one of the possibilities. In Denmark, all the libraries is free to use, In the way, that all the basis services are free of charge for the public. In Denmark almost all the Libraries are funded by tax. The libraries are obligated to make all kinds of materials available, both physical and digital. Not just books. We have 98 municipalities and all of them are obligated, by legislation, to have a library and to finance it. Some of the municipalities have more than one library. We have approximately 450 public libraries, to a population of 5,5 mil. people. Half of the libraries are closed in the last ten years, but the development has hopefully stopped now. Open libraries - without staff ............. all the time

Do you know this when you visit the library? The experience is no longer as common in Denmark North Beach: San Francisco Public Library yesterday at 9:55 am When I as a Dane participant in such a big event like IFLA or the ALA Annual Meeting is one of the questions we often get; is it true that in Denmark the libraries are open without staff? The answer I give is; no, we do not have libraries without staff, but we have libraries that are open even when the staff is not there.
