The challenges facing the library field from ever-increasing globalisation can only be met and overcome by an inclusive, global response from a united library field. We firmly believe that only a unified and connected library field will be able to fulfil one of the true potentials of libraries: to build literate, informed and participative societies.

I'm excited about the results, and the discussion framework sounds promising, so it's okay I have to live with 40 degree heat, while I sit for a meeting for the next two days at the Prado Musset and my family on vacation without me.

It started with IFLA a few years ago created The IFLA Trend Report who identifies five high level trends shaping
the global information environment. They’re evolving rapidly,
and on course for collision – with reverberations that will
ripple through the role and services provided by libraries
around the world.
In the global information environment, time moves quickly and there's an abundance of commentators trying to keep up. With each new technological development, a new report emerges assessing its impact on different sectors of society. The IFLA Trend Report takes a broader approach and identifies five high level trends shaping the information society, spanning access to education, privacy, civic engagement and transformation. Its findings reflect a year’s consultation with a range of experts and stakeholders from different disciplines to map broader societal changes occurring, or likely to occur in the information environment.

HAS ACCESS TO INFORMATION
An ever-expanding digital universe will bring a higher
value to information literacy skills such as basic reading
and competence with digital tools. People who lack these

share or access information in the future.

More opportunities for collective action are realised in
hyper-connected societies – enabling the rise of new
voices and promoting the growth of single-issue
movements at the expense of traditional political

public sector data will lead to more transparency and
citizen-focused public services.

ECONOMY WILL BE TRANSFORMED
BY NEW TECHNOLOGIES
Proliferation of hyper-connected mobile devices,
networked sensors in appliances and infrastructure,
3D printing and language-translation technologies will
transform the global information economy. Existing

creative disruption spurred by innovative devices that
help people remain economically active later in life

Face-to-face and online, future-oriented conversations will be taking place throughout the year. To make this a true global brainstorm, we want to see participation from all countries in the world.
In occasion of my participation in the World Congress for Libraries IFLA, I have made a presentation of the libraries in Denmark and especially the concept we call OPEN LIBRARIES. The theme of WLIC 2013 is "Future Libraries: Infinite Possibilities" and OPEN LIBRARIES is one of the possibilities. In Denmark, all the libraries is free to use, In the way, that all the basis services are free of charge for the public. In Denmark almost all the Libraries are funded by tax. The libraries are obligated to make all kinds of materials available, both physical and digital. Not just books. We have 98 municipalities and all of them are obligated, by legislation, to have a library and to finance it. Some of the municipalities have more than one library. We have approximately 450 public libraries, to a population of 5,5 mil. people. Half of the libraries are closed in the last ten years, but the development has hopefully stopped now. Mine største børn siger stadig at de går på skolebiblioteker, men jeg tvivler på at min den yngste på 4 kommer til at kende begrebet. I kølvandet på folkeskolereformen er skolebiblioteket nemlig blevet afskaffet eller i hvert fald erstattet af pædagogiske læringscentre . Hvad betyder det for skolen og elevernes kompetencer i forhold til traditionelle biblioteksdyder som litteratursøgning, kildekritik og læselyst, når man ændre fokus fra bibliotek til læringscenter. Det er tanker der er inspireret af at jeg er på vej til generalforsamling i Aarhus hos Kommunernes Skolebiblioteksforening eller de har naturligvis også skiftet navn til Kommunernes Forening for Pædagogiske Læringscentre . The answer I give is; no, we do not have libraries without staff, but we have libraries that are open even when the staff is not there.
